DEAR HR: A Response would have been Better
The role of Human Resource (HR) Manager is not as easy as it looks as they have to undergo lots of roles and processes.
The Human Resource Manager not only has to help the organization to hire the best resources in the right time frame but also works as:
- the mentor,
- mediator,
- spokesperson,
- path identifier,
- advisor,
- facilitator,
- team motivator,
- philosopher,
- problem solver,
- welfare organizer,
- service provider and
- the strategy formulator, etc.
for the employee, employer, and the organization. Though need to not mention there are many other roles as well which an HR manager performs on a day-to-day basis. Communication is one of those. Hence, they play a very critical role in achieving the organization’s goals and success.
Communication is Important
Communication is an important aspect in both professional and personal aspects of life. In terms of profession, communication is the key to the growth of the organization and the respective individual as well. One wrong communication or no communication at all can be extremely dangerous.
During the process of hiring, once the candidate is not selected or is kept on hold, this has been observed that most of the HR Executives / Managers do forget or in few cases tentatively do not communicate back to them. This lack of communication harms the respective HR Executives / Managers, the organization, and it’s Brand Reputation/goodwill. First of all, such behavior looks extremely unprofessional and it also creates an extremely bad reputation/goodwill of the HR representative and his/her respective organization. Sometimes, the HR Executives / Manager do carry the same baggage with them to their next organizations as well.
Need of the Hour:
The only simple task is to “Just Communicate”.
They just need to communicate to their respective candidates in case of:
· Whether the employee is not selected,
· Their hiring is on hold (can be for numerous reasons). It is okay not to tell the exact reason but is always good to inform at least,
· The job role is on hold for some time (Example: Due to Covid-19 Pandemic Situation)
· For maybe any other reasons. But still, please do communicate it to the candidate.
· The art of saying “We will get back to you”, either in text or verbally. Through, this is a very diplomatic and the safest answer by most of the HR professionals which simply means “Not Selected” and most of the candidates know this and are used to this answer.
Hence, as mentioned earlier, HR professionals do play a very critical role in achieving the organization’s goals and success. They need to communicate with the candidates, whom they intend to hire, especially to the ones who are not selected or are on hold for whatever reason/s.
